5 Must Have Esthetician Tools

In my 13 years as an esthetician {& 5 years since opening Gameela Skin}, I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to provide your clients with a 5-star experience!

I’m sharing my top 5 must-have tools as an esthetician. Whether you’re just starting out, or you're more than a decade in, it’s always good to stay up-to-date on the latest and greatest when it comes to skin care and spa treatment enhancing tools.

Must Have Products For Licensed Estheticians

As an esthetician, there will be some obvious variation in the essential tools you need, depending on what type of cosmetic, spa or skin care procedures you offer to your clients. At Gameela Skin, I offer a wide range of skin & beauty services: from waxing and dermaplaning, to facials and skin treatments. I also offer lash lifts, tinting and brow lamination.

The products below are what I use in my services to enhance the experience of my clients, and provide the best experience possible.

Ice Globes For Facials

Ice globes are one of the latest additions to my facial experience and my clients have definitely been loving it. Ice globes and ice rollers have become one of the most popular skincare tools in the past year, with many celebrities giving credit to ice globes for their youthful, fresh looking complexions.

Incorporating ice globes into a facial provides a unique cooling sensation, while also providing the benefits of a lymphatic drainage massage.

What Are Ice Globes?

Ice globes are a tool that essentially looks like a ball at the end of a handle, which is meant to be chilled and applied to the skin during or after a facial treatment.

Ice globes are excellent to use after a peel or a wax - when the skin has the potential to be irritated or inflamed, an ice globe will cool the skin and reduce potential inflammation and puffiness. They are also excellent to use during a facial to reduce puffiness and provide lymphatic drainage to the face and neck.

Ice globes work with your clients’ skin to reduce inflammation and puffiness, brighten the complexion, give the face and neck a natural lift and relax the facial muscles. Not to mention, the cold application just feels great. I’ve been using these ice globes in the salon and have seen great results.

Spoolies For Lashes

Eyebrows and lashes are some of the more important hairs that we deal with in the salon, and a tool that enhances almost all of my brow and lash treatments have been spoolies.

A spoolie brush looks similar to a mascara brush, but comes with no product on the end - think of it as a hairbrush for your lashes and brows. Spoolies work to keep lashes and eyebrows full and lush, and also helps to define the individual lashes, which is useful when you’re working with the eyelashes during a spa service.

Spoolies are a must at Gameela Skin to help brush eyebrow hairs up and make trimming easy, as well as fluffing the lashing during lash lifts. A spoolie is also perfect to brush through lashes at the end of the treatment, making them look lush and full and removing any excess product from the lashes. I’ve been working with this pack of disposable spoolies, which makes cleanup after using the spoolies a breeze. (cleanliness is a priority at Gameela Skin)

Latex Free Gloves

This one may be obvious. As an esthetician, you’re going to be up close & personal with your clients, but that doesn’t mean the oils on your hands have to be too.

I like to rely on gloves during pretty much ALL of my treatments to ensure the safety of both myself and my clients. Over exposing yourself to some of the chemical peels and other exfoliating skincare products every day isn’t ideal for your hands. You also don’t want to distribute any of the natural oils and potential germs that live on your hands to your clients’ faces during treatments. I like to keep these latex free gloves on hand in my space, I’ve had quite a few clients mention they are allergic to latex so I choose to avoid it, just to be safe.

Skincare Fridge

If you don’t yet have a skincare fridge at your salon, it’s time to try one. Some of the benefits of having a skincare fridge include: Increasing the lifespan of your products, minimizing risk of bacteria, and enhancing client experience with product application.

Additionally, a fridge makes it easy to keep items like ice globes and cold rollers chilled for services so they are ready to go. When products are chilled prior to use, it makes them feel super soothing during application. The Aidek Cosmetic skincare fridge is a great choice: it’s portable with a handle, durable and has easily adjustable shelves inside that can be customized to fit all of your favorite products. You won’t regret this one!

Leg Elevation Pillow

If you want every client to sit down in your chair and feel like they are putting their feet up and relaxing at the end of a long day, you need to grab a leg elevation pillow. Aside from making your clients more comfortable {especially if you don’t have an electric table that you can raise up and down}, a leg elevation pillow also has some amazing benefits that your clients will definitely appreciate.

Elevating the legs helps improve blood flow in the veins and reduce swelling, while also lessening any leg and back pain. Elevating their legs while they receive treatments will help clients reduce any pressure on their body, allowing them to leave with both fresh skin and a sense of rejuvenation. This memory foam leg elevation bolster is a great choice if you’re looking to grab one for your salon!
