Everything You Need To Know About Lash Lifts

Lash lifts have had quite a surge in popularity lately, and we are so on board with it! As proud and long time lash lift lovers, we know all the ins and outs of the treatment. It’s recently come to our attention that there is actually a lot of confusion around what lash lifts really are. So we thought we’d help clear up any confusion you might have with this handy guide.

What is a Lash Lift and How Does it Work?

Lash lifting is a service that adds a natural and luscious curl to your eyelashes from the base of the lash to the tip so you can see the full length. Similar to the effects of an eyelash curler, a lash lift involves a semi-permanent solution that will bend your lashes upwards, and leave them looking longer, and your eyes more open.

There are a few simple steps involved in a lash lift treatment

Depending on the length of your lashes, we’ll start by fitting you for the appropriate size silicon rod. A glue will be applied to the rod, and your lashes will be brushed on top of the rod.

The first solution will then be applied to your eyelashes for about four minutes. The solution is then removed, and is followed up by a second solution for the same time period.

The application of both solutions usually varies depending on the length and thickness of each individual's lashes. The entire lash lift treatment will generally last about 45 minutes.

How Long Does a Lash Lift Last?

On average, a lash lift will last anywhere between six to eight weeks. However, it’s important to note that longevity will depend on how well you care of  your lashes before and after your appointment.

  • Before your appointment, we recommend arriving without any eye makeup, eyelash glue, etc. as these will affect the results of your lift.

  • In the first 24 hours following your appointment, we recommend avoiding any and all moisture - no steamy showers, saunas, sweating, etc. Although we will have applied the semi-permanent solution to your eyelashes, they will still be flexible in the few days following your appointment.

  • Within 48-72 hours following your appointment, it’s best to use only oil-free mascaras and oil-free makeup removers. Oil can cause the lashes to drop prematurely, so we want to avoid adding this weight to your lashes.

  • Following these care instructions will help your lash lift last the full eight weeks!

Does a Lash Lifts Damage the Eyelashes?

No - lash lifts will not do damage to your eyelashes. As long as you visit a licensed and certified professional, and wait the recommended six to eight weeks between appointments, the treatment will do no harm.
During our lash lift treatment at Gameela Skin, our products will actually do quite the opposite of damaging your lashes. Not only do we use safe products during your treatment, but following your lash lift we also use a lash conditioner by one of our favorite brands, Jane Iredale. After your treatment, we’ll apply a single coat of conditioner to help strengthen, lengthen, and thicken your eyelashes.

Good news - we retail this lash conditioner as well as a handful of other Jane Iredale products at our salon. To make a purchase contact our esthetician!

Is it Better to Get a Lash Lift or Lash Extensions?

We might be biased, but we are team lash lift - here’s why!

  • A lash lift will outlive lash extensions by about four weeks. Lash lifts last about six to eight weeks, while lash extensions last three to four weeks.

  • Lash lifts are a time saver! Lash lift treatments take about 45 minutes, while lash extensions can take up to two hours. For as busy as we are these days - we’re all about the convenience of completing your treatment within a reasonable timeframe.

  • A lash lift does not require changing up your skincare routine. With the exception of keeping your lashes dry for the first 24 hours following your appointment, you can go on using your usual skincare products. With lash extensions, you typically need to change up the products you’re using for an extended period of time.

With the similarities and differences between these services, it’s also important to consider which service is right for you depending on the type of look you’re going for.

A lash lift is a great choice for those who are going for a more natural look as the treatment will give your real lashes a much more natural curl.

Lash extensions are the best option for those who prefer a much more dramatic and bold look, as the treatment involves adding fake lashes on to the existing ones.
